Ok so April and I have been seeing all these COMPLAINTS about how “unrealistic” and “sexist” comic books are in the way they portray women and their bodies.
WELL we have decided that you are all crazy feminists and there is nothing wrong with how women are drawn in comic books.
So to prove this we have decided to show you that not only are women portrayed realistically in comics, but we do most of these so called “impossible” and “ridiculous” poses on a daily basis just by naturally going about our buisness.
And if THIS doesn’t convince you, just wait ‘til next week! We plan to post a new picture each Wednesday and friday. And if you think that this is some sort of joke or that this is not how we perform tasks on a daily basis, then fuck you! You don’t know our lives.
We DEFY you to find a pose that we don’t do on normal, average day…..come at us bro!
A cracking, brand new edit of ‘Turnip Man’ from Lawrie Brewster and Sarah Daly. This version is notably different to the other versions, and my favourite yet.
Check it out!
Skippy (Ross Campbell) and his lovely friend “Linda”. Taken during the filming of ‘Fatal Attractions’ by Amy Smith.
Happy New Year, everyone!
It’s been a long while since I updated this page. I’ve been distracted with a variety of things (not least the 9-5 teaching job, or returning home to Scotland for a three week Christmas vacation!). I’m hoping 2012 is going to prove a productive year for my filmmaking ventures, and a chance to show everyone the fruits of my passion.
So, some quick updates.
Firstly, my IMDb page has been updated with more lovely credits for ‘White Out’. Very nice!

Additionally, I’m working hard on finishing both ‘Fatal Attractions’ and a promotional video for the About Kirkcaldy website. As a lot of you know, I grew up in the town of Kirkcaldy in Scotland, and this website is all about promoting the town and getting people talking about it. The video I’m working on is looking to try and capture the town at it’s best; to make everyone feel proud about living in the town, and to inspire people to visit. You can find the thread about the video on the site’s forums here;

In the mean time, here’s a little production still from the shoot of ‘Fatal Attractions’ of Skippy (Ross Campbell) holding our lovely dummy, Linda. The photo was taken by Amy Smith. Both Skippy and Amy appear in the finished film…
Here’s an updated version of the Turnip Head film that I’m in (complete with Gary Oldman voiceover). Lawrie intends this to be the final cut for now…
See what you think!
My wonderful Sarah Daly gets her first big break in a national newspaper talking about her music and work! I’m so proud of her and if you haven’t heard her music before, I hope you enjoy the link for something unusual and special :)
Remember that crazy Turnip Head video made by Lawrie Brewster and the lovely folks at HitRECord? The original Turnip Head short story by Sarah Daly (Metaphorest!) was liked so much by a certain Mr. Gary Oldman that he did a reading in Los Angeles (!). As such, we now have a new version of the film - complete with Gary Oldman vocals!
Hope you enjoy - this was a pleasant surprise! Does this mean I can say I’m in a film with Gary Oldman now…?
Congratulations to Sarah Daly for this amazing achievement.
Check out my new blog all about my adventures in Japan, here!

Here you can find out about my life in Japan - my travels, my job teaching English, and my experiences of this fascinating culture. I’ll be aiming to update this very regularly, so please check for more updates soon!
Ganbarimasu :)

Above: A film you really, REALLY want to see…
Here’s a sneak peek of a project from waaaay back in June 2011, where I helped out my good friend Andy Mitchell turn his first ever script into a short film - ‘Random Text’.

Above: Our handsome lead.
Andy had written the script for ‘Random Text’ at the start of the year, and approached me to help him out. As Andy has always been a damn good friend, I was happy to help him out, and we agreed to co-produce and co-direct this little project. Although time was of the essence (I was leaving for Japan at the end of July!), we figured we could wrap shooting within two days and have plenty of time to enjoy the finished product before I headed off to Asia.

Above: Andy (left) and myself (looking rather windswept).
Of course, sometimes things don’t quite work out as planned…!
Grabbing hold of my recently acquired Canon 60D, I figured this was the perfect project to give it’s 1080p video mode a spin by working as the Director of Photography, too! So… recruiting a team of our filmy friends and several script redrafts later, we finally assembled one rainy morning in June in Dysart, Fife.

Above: Meet the team! From left to right, it’s Kirk, Clare, Jon and Dave!

Above: Our sound man, David Ross, kindly allowed us to use his home for filming interiors.
As written by Andy, ‘Random Text’ is the story of Scott, a student madly in love with the girl of his dreams, Roxy. One hungover morning, he finally receives a text from her number… begging him for sex. Scott races across Kirkcaldy to finally acquire the woman of his dreams, although things aren’t quite as they seem.

Above: Kirk readies himself for yet another sprint across the town centre.
The film features Kirk Leary as ‘Scott’, Jon Finnegan (of ‘White Out’ fame!) as ‘Ryan’, Nicola Patrick as ‘Roxy’ as well as a brief appearance from Jenni Leigh. The team was assisted with great help from Clare Heggie, Emma Annan (on make-up) and David Ross (on sound). Support and encouragement was offered by the lovely Lawrie Brewster and Sarah Daly.

Above: Emma prepares Nicola for her sexy debut.

Above: Jon Finnegan and Andy chill out between takes… with some high quality literature.
Unfortunately… not everything went to plan. Even though the film was only ever intended to be shot over only a couple of days, disaster struck when unforseen personal circumstances caused the production to stop suddenly prematurely with only around 50% of the film shot. The team intended to restart at a later date, but sadly our lead became unavailable as he returned to England indefinitely. Of course, with myself moving to Japan at the end of July… we never had a chance to finish shooting the film.

Above: The heroic team in Kirkcaldy Harbour area. You tell ‘em, Nicola…
So, what now?

Above: Surely this beautiful romance will somehow see the light of day… right?

Well, all is not lost.
While it’s true that the project is obviously on hiatus, this would always have been the case, as I have currently too much of a backlog with other projects anyway. Therefore, there are many other short films coming from me in the next couple of months to entertain you, and as such they’ll remain my focus for the immediate future.
However, once the slate is cleared, I’m returning to Scotland this Christmas for around three weeks. It is my intention to use this period of time to finish shooting the film. I feel we owe it to Andy to get this project finished, and to make it as good as it damn well can be ;)

Above: Yeah… no way I’m not using this material.
So, we’ll get there folks. Perhaps a little later than we initially intended, but darn it, we’re going to get there.

Above: The lovers rejoice.
Stay tuned, folks ;)
